Wang Yi Chairs The Meeting Of Coordinators For The Implementation Of The Results Of The 8th Ministerial Conference Of The Forum On China Africa Cooperation

On August 18, 2022, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted a video conference in Beijing to coordinate the implementation of the outcomes of the 8th Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation. The African side co chairs of the forum, Senegal's Foreign Minister Isata, as well as previous African side chairs of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation, representatives of various African subregions, representatives of the African Union Commission, and African envoys to China attended the meeting.

Wang Yi stated that in November last year, the 8th Ministerial Conference of the Forum was successfully held in Dakar, and President * * * announced the launch of the "Nine Projects" for China's cooperation with Africa. The conference is of great significance in promoting traditional friendship between China and Africa, consolidating unity and cooperation between China and Africa, and promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for China and Africa in the new era.

Wang Yi pointed out that over the past six months, China and Africa have maintained composure, sincere unity, focused on cooperation, and made good progress in implementing the conference outcomes, bringing tangible benefits to the African people.

We jointly defend international fairness and justice. China Africa solidarity and cooperation have become the backbone of safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, upholding the purposes of the United Nations Charter, and upholding multilateralism and international fairness and justice.

We jointly focus on development cooperation. Both sides continue to promote cooperation in infrastructure construction and have completed a large number of major projects, which will greatly promote the industrialization process in Africa.

We are working together to address the global food crisis. China provides emergency food aid to African countries, and a new batch of African characteristic agricultural products enter the Chinese market through the "green channel". Chinese enterprises have increased investment in African agriculture, helping African farmers create employment, lift themselves out of poverty, and become prosperous.

We will work together to create a solid barrier against the epidemic. China has provided 189 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to 27 African countries, and the annual production capacity of localized cooperation in Africa has reached about 400 million doses.

We are jointly committed to resilient and sustainable development. Both sides will expand cooperation on clean energy, implement South South cooperation projects to address climate change, and carry out the construction of low-carbon demonstration zones.

We work together to promote regional peace and stability. China has proposed the "Concept of Peaceful Development in the Horn of Africa" and appointed a special envoy for the Horn of Africa affairs to provide aid to regional countries, effectively supporting them in enhancing their ability to maintain stability and promote peace.

Wang Yi emphasized that the achievements of China Africa cooperation are not easy won and the prospects are promising. If China Africa cooperation is well carried out, there will be more new momentum for global development, more positive energy for world stability, and more new hope for people of all countries. China Africa friendship can withstand the test and withstand the storms, and will definitely continue to become the backbone of South South cooperation and a model of international relations.

Wang Yi said that in the second half of this year, the CPC will hold the 20th National Congress, starting a new journey of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way. This year is also the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the African Union, and Africa will usher in new development opportunities. Standing at a new historical starting point, China and Africa should unite more closely, accelerate the path of common development and revitalization, and truly build a community with a shared future for China and Africa in the new era. Wang Yi proposed five suggestions:

Firstly, adhere to truthfulness, sincerity, and strengthen unity and mutual assistance. China will continue to implement the concept of genuine sincerity and the correct concept of righteousness and interests proposed by President * * *, and become a partner of mutual respect, equal treatment, and sincere cooperation with Africa. We will firmly support African countries in taking their own path and supporting African countries to unite and strengthen themselves. China is willing to work with Africa to promote the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, practice true multilateralism, and jointly defend the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.

Secondly, we must adhere to a down-to-earth approach and strive for common development. China is willing to work with the African side to fully implement the "nine projects" and continue to promote high-quality "the Belt and Road" cooperation. China will continue to actively participate in major infrastructure construction in Africa, continue to expand imports from Africa, support the development and growth of Africa's agriculture and manufacturing industries, and expand cooperation in emerging industries. China has initiated the construction of a global development project library and welcomes project applications from African countries.

Thirdly, adhere to independence and autonomy, and jointly promote regional peace. China will continue to support the resolution of African issues through an African approach, oppose external interference in the internal affairs of African countries, and oppose the creation of confrontations and conflicts in Africa. China is willing to assist Africa in enhancing its counter-terrorism and stability capabilities, and to implement the "eliminate gunfire" initiative as soon as possible. China is willing to work with Africa to implement the Global Security Initiative, increase investment in the China United Nations Peace and Development Fund, and optimize United Nations stability and peace actions in Africa.

Fourthly, we must adhere to the inheritance of friendship and promote mutual understanding among the people. China will overcome the difficulties caused by the epidemic, actively promote the resumption of classes for African students studying in China, and is willing to return to China as soon as possible. We will orderly resume short-term offline training in China, continue to increase commercial flights between China and Africa, and facilitate personnel and business exchanges between China and Africa. China supports the strengthening of exchanges and cooperation between think tanks, media, non-governmental organizations, and young women on both sides, continuously bringing the friendly feelings of the Chinese and African people closer.

Fifth, adhere to openness and win-win situation, and promote the healthy development of international cooperation with Africa. China welcomes the continued concern and support of the international community for Africa, and is willing to engage in trilateral or multi-party cooperation in Africa with the consent of African brothers. In the new situation, China is willing to work with Africa to promote the construction of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation mechanism, promote more resources to tilt towards Africa, and continue to make the Forum a banner and benchmark for cooperation with Africa.

The African side appreciates the important role played by China in African countries' response to the food crisis, energy crisis and the COVID-19, and looks forward to working with China to continue to strengthen the construction of the forum mechanism, deeply link the development strategies of African countries with the "the Belt and Road" initiative, and promote the continuous improvement and upgrading of Africa China cooperation.
