Wang Yi Holds Talks With Egyptian Foreign Minister Shokri

On January 14, 2024 local time, Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Shokri in Cairo.

Shukri stated that Egypt is the first African and Arab country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, and we are deeply proud of this. I am pleased that Egypt has once again become the first stop for the Chinese Foreign Minister's New Year visit, which demonstrates the strong and profound friendship between Egypt and China. Egypt adheres to the One China principle, firmly supports China in maintaining national unity, stability, and development, and supports China's legitimate position on issues related to Xinjiang and Hong Kong. Looking forward to working with China to elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and China to a higher level in accordance with the guidance of the two heads of state.

Wang Yi said that China appreciates Egypt's support for China's legitimate position, and China firmly supports Egypt's defense of sovereignty, security, development interests, and national dignity. China is willing to continue to support Egypt on issues related to each other's core interests and major concerns. Over the past decade since the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Egypt, political mutual trust has been deepening, pragmatic cooperation has yielded fruitful results, and multilateral cooperation has been closely and effectively strengthened. The friendship between China and Egypt has brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries and set an example for South South cooperation. China is willing to work with Egypt to implement the important consensus of the two heads of state, promote new development of China Egypt relations, and reach a new level.

Wang Yi said that the two sides should deepen practical cooperation, make good use of the cooperation mechanisms at all levels and in all fields such as the Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee, jointly build the "the Belt and Road" with high quality, promote the construction of landmark projects such as Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, the new administrative capital CBD, and the Ramadan 10th City Light Rail, and expand cooperation in new energy, aerospace, agricultural science and technology, digital economy, artificial intelligence, medical and health. China encourages Chinese enterprises to invest and develop in Egypt, welcomes more Chinese citizens to travel to Egypt, and is willing to expand the import of Egyptian specialty products. China supports Egypt in strengthening talent training and is willing to build the "Luban Workshop" in Egypt as a benchmark for vocational education cooperation between China and Africa.

Wang Yi pointed out that both China and Egypt are representatives of developing countries and emerging forces, both adhering to independent foreign policies and supporting true multilateralism. In a turbulent and intertwined world, China and Egypt are important strategic stability factors. China is willing to work together with Egypt to support an equal and orderly world multipolarity and inclusive economic globalization, promote the development of international governance towards fairness and reasonableness, and defend the common interests and legitimate rights of developing countries.

Shu Kri stated that Egypt and China share similar or identical positions on major international issues. Egypt is willing to work closely with China in multilateral cooperation, jointly uphold the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, strengthen solidarity among developing countries, jointly oppose the creation of conflicts and opposition, and maintain international and regional peace and stability.

Both sides agreed to jointly implement the results of the first China Arab Summit and the Forum on China Africa Cooperation, and to effectively implement the "Eight Common Actions" of China Arab pragmatic cooperation and the "Nine Projects" of China Africa pragmatic cooperation.

Both sides had in-depth communication on the Palestinian Israeli conflict and issued a joint statement on the Palestinian issue after the meeting, expressing deep concern about the further spillover of the current conflict. They emphasized the need for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, implementation of relevant United Nations resolutions, establishment of effective humanitarian rescue mechanisms, and promotion of the implementation of the "two country solution" to contribute to a lasting, comprehensive, and just resolution of the Palestinian issue.

Both sides also signed the Second Five Year Implementation Outline of the China Egypt Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
