Wang Yi Meets With Ivory Coast Foreign Minister Adom

On January 18, 2024 local time, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Ivorian Foreign Minister Adom in Abidjan.

Adom said that China is a good friend of unity and mutual assistance, and has become a strategic partner with exemplary significance. We are proud of the high level of mutual trust and high-level cooperation between the two countries. I would like to reiterate that C ô te d'Ivoire adheres to the One China principle, believes that Chinese territory is indivisible, and supports China in defending its legitimate rights and interests in the South China Sea issue. Thank you to the Chinese side for always listening to the needs of science and technology and providing valuable support for the development of various fields in science and technology. With the help of China, three sports stadiums were delivered on time and six electric buses successfully arrived in C ô te d'Ivoire, making an indispensable contribution to the successful hosting of the African Cup football tournament. C ô te d'Ivoire is willing to continue developing a dynamic relationship between China and Cote d'Ivoire, further expanding mutually beneficial cooperation, drawing on China's advanced experience, and finding a modernization path that is in line with Cote d'Ivoire's national conditions and has its own characteristics.

Adom stated that China has always been sincere and friendly towards Africa, adhering to the principle of consultation, joint construction, and sharing to carry out cooperation with Africa. Africa looks forward to using the new Forum on China Africa Cooperation as an opportunity to deepen cooperation in various fields and achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.

Wang Yi said that China and Science and Technology are friends and partners on the path of development and revitalization, and the two countries have achieved fruitful results in mutually beneficial cooperation. We are pleased to have made China's contribution to the successful hosting of the African Cup in Cote d'Ivoire. We are willing to work with the Cote d'Ivoire to plan and promote practical cooperation in various fields, guided by the important consensus of the two heads of state, and open up new prospects for China Cote d'Ivoire relations in the new era.

Wang Yi stated that Cote d'Ivoire is the final stop of my New Year's trip to Africa. Along the way, I have fully felt the enthusiasm and friendship of African countries and the strong mutual trust between China and Africa. The leaders of the four African countries who visited immediately and with a clear attitude publicly and firmly supported the Chinese government's position on the Taiwan issue, supporting China in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, fully demonstrating the excellent tradition of mutual support between China and Africa. The unity and friendship between China and Africa have emerged in the struggle for national liberation and independence, and have been elevated in the historical process of common development and revitalization. It is worth cherishing and promoting. China will always stand with Africa, firmly support Africa in safeguarding national sovereignty, independence, and national dignity, support African countries in uniting and strengthening themselves, explore a development path that not only accelerates development but also maintains independence and African characteristics, and firmly grasp Africa's future and destiny in its own hands.

Wang Yi emphasized that the Forum on China Africa Cooperation has achieved great success in promoting China Africa cooperation and has effectively driven the international community to increase investment in Africa. China advocates for an equal and orderly world multipolarity and inclusive economic globalization. We are full of confidence in Africa's development and support Africa in striving for its rightful position in a multipolar system, fully enjoying the dividends of economic globalization. China will continue to uphold the concept of genuine sincerity, strengthen the docking of development strategies and exchange of governance experience with Africa, lead China Africa cooperation to continue to be at the forefront of the times, build a closer community with a shared future between China and Africa, and accelerate the realization of common modernization between China and Africa.

Both sides exchanged views on extensive cooperation in areas such as economic and trade investment, infrastructure, education and training, and agriculture, and will jointly promote the improvement and efficiency of practical cooperation between China and science and technology.

Both sides have a high degree of consensus on international and regional issues, and will maintain close communication and coordination to jointly promote peace and security in Africa, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of China and Africa, and defend international fairness and justice.

After the meeting, both sides witnessed the signing of the electric bus handover certificate presented by the Chinese government to the Ivorian government in support of the African Cup.
