Wang Yi Holds Talks With Kenyan Cabinet Chief Minister And Foreign Minister Mudawadi

On January 25, 2024, Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Kenyan Chief Minister and Foreign Minister Mudawadi in Beijing. Both sides have had in-depth communication on a wide range of bilateral and multilateral issues, and have unanimously agreed to use the strategic consensus of the two heads of state as a guide to promote the construction of a community with a shared future between China and Kenya.

Wang Yi said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 60 years ago, China and Kenya have always understood and supported each other, becoming good friends who trust each other and good partners for win-win cooperation. President Xi Jinping has established mutual trust and friendship with President Ruto, providing strategic guidance for the development of bilateral relations. The practical cooperation between the two sides has yielded fruitful results. The Mombasa Nairobi Railway and other landmark projects of the "the Belt and Road" have helped Kenya's economic development. The Chinese side appreciates Kenya's adherence to the One China principle, adherence to the basic principle of non-interference in internal affairs in international relations, and support China's just stance and legitimate rights. China also firmly supports the Kenyan side in safeguarding sovereignty, independence, and national stability, and supports the Kenyan side in independently promoting national development. It is willing to consolidate political mutual trust between the two sides, deepen all-round cooperation, and promote China Kenya relations to a higher level.

Wang Yi introduced the distinctive features and realization path of Chinese path to modernization, and said that Africa is a promising continent. China supports Africa in exploring the African style modernization path, and is willing to strengthen exchanges of experience in governance and administration, promote the deepening and implementation of China Africa high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road", and achieve common development and prosperity.

Mudawadi said that Kenya China partnership is strong, practical cooperation has achieved remarkable results, and the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" has strongly supported Kenya's national construction and economic development. On behalf of the Kenyan government, I reiterate that Kenya will continue to unwaveringly adhere to the One China principle and stand with China on issues such as Taiwan and human rights. Looking forward to closer cooperation with China and opening up a new 60 year comprehensive strategic partnership between Kenya and China. China is a great country that has made outstanding contributions to peaceful development. The concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and a series of important global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping will bring a better future to the world. Kenya highly appreciates and will continue to actively participate, and looks forward to learning from China's development concept and strengthening experience exchange.

Both sides highly value the important achievements of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation and its contributions to African development. Wang Yi stated that China has always placed Africa in an important position in the overall diplomatic situation, and is willing to take the new Forum on China Africa Cooperation as an opportunity to promote the spirit of friendly cooperation between China and Africa, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Africa, and enhance unity and cooperation between China and Africa.

Both sides also exchanged views on the situation in the Horn of Africa and will work together to promote peace and security in Africa.
