Xi Jinping Talks With Equatorial Guinea President Obiang

On the afternoon of May 28, 2024, President Xi Jinping held talks with Equatorial Guinea's President Obiang, who was on a state visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The two heads of state announced that they will elevate the relationship between China and Equatorial Guinea to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Equatorial Guinea are good friends and partners who share the same heart and soul, and high-level political mutual trust is the most distinctive feature of the relationship between the two countries. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than half a century ago, both sides have always stood by each other's side, supported each other through thick and thin, and firmly supported each other on issues related to each other's core interests and major concerns, becoming a vivid portrayal of China's sincere friendship and joint development with African countries. Before the meeting, Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan held a welcoming ceremony for Obiang and his wife Constantia at the square outside the east gate of the Great Hall of the People.

When Obiang arrived, the ceremonial soldiers lined up to pay their respects. The two heads of state stepped onto the reviewing stand, the military band played the national anthems of China and Equatorial Guinea, and the Tiananmen Square played them21 salutes. Obiang, accompanied by Xi Jinping , reviewed the honor guard of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and watched the march.

That evening, Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan held a welcome banquet for the Obiang couple in the Golden Hall of the Great Hall of the People.
