Wang Yi Holds Phone Talks With Egyptian Foreign Minister Shukri

On October 16, 2023, Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a phone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Shukri.

Shukeri said that the current situation between Palestine and Israel is very critical. Egypt highly praises China's adherence to principles, impartiality, and support for the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate national rights and achieve independent statehood. It highly appreciates China's important role in resolving the Palestinian issue politically and maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East. Egypt is willing to maintain close communication with China, promote a cooling down of the situation, avoid further escalation of the conflict, and prevent further spillover of the crisis.

Shukeri stated that Egypt China has a profound friendship and strong bilateral relations. I wish the third the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation a complete success, and Egypt will continue to actively participate in the joint construction of the the Belt and Road.

Wang Yi reiterated that China opposes and condemns all acts that harm civilians and violate international humanitarian law, and will continue to stand on the side of international morality and support the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate national rights. Under the current situation, the United Nations Security Council should play its due role in ceasing fire and ending the war as soon as possible. China appreciates Egypt's active mediation, efforts to coordinate and alleviate the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, support the formation of a common position between Arab and Islamic countries, and issue a unanimous voice. China is willing to work with all parties to promote the resumption of negotiations on the "Two Country Plan" and strive to form a broader international consensus.

Wang Yi expressed that Egypt is an important partner of the "the Belt and Road" initiative and believes that Egypt will make positive contributions to the successful holding of the Summit Forum and the high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" initiative.
