On the morning of October 17, 2023, President Xi Jinping met in the Great Hall of the People with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abi, who came to China to attend the Third the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and pay an official visit.

Congratulate Ethiopia on being invited to join the BRICS cooperation mechanism, and point out that Ethiopia is an important participant in the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road". Over the past 10 years, China and Ethiopia have been at the forefront of China Africa cooperation in terms of the scope and achievements of the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road". Both sides should take the establishment of an all-weather strategic partnership as an opportunity to continuously consolidate friendship and mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, and promote more achievements in bilateral relations. They should become friends for common development and win-win cooperation, and partners for promoting South-South unity and cooperation, and maintaining international fairness and justice.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China supports Ethiopia in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests. Both sides should continue to strengthen unity and cooperation, and firmly support each other on issues related to each other's core interests and major concerns. China is willing to strengthen practical cooperation in various fields with Ethiopia within the framework of jointly building the "the Belt and Road" and the Forum on China Africa Cooperation, support and participate in Ethiopia's post-war reconstruction and economic revitalization, strengthen green development cooperation, implement global development initiatives, and help Ethiopia achieve development. Ethiopia is a world powerhouse in marathon sports. China is willing to work with Ethiopia to promote the spirit of the Marathon and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind on the journey of promoting peace and development.

Abby said that during my trip, I found Beijing to be cleaner, more beautiful, and the people happier, which demonstrates the tremendous efforts and great achievements made by the Chinese government in recent years. China is an important partner of Ethiopia, and China's investment and cooperation, especially the cooperation in jointly building the "the Belt and Road", have strongly promoted Ethiopia's economic and social development. The relationship between Ethiopia and China is on the right path, and further strengthening bilateral relations is not only crucial for Ethiopia, but also of great significance for South-South unity. Ethiopia hopes to learn from China's experience in governing the party and the country, look forward to working with China to jointly build the "the Belt and Road", carry out closer cooperation in key areas, and welcome more Chinese enterprises to invest in Ethiopia. The Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping reflect equality, openness, and mutual respect, which are conducive to promoting common development. Ethiopia highly appreciates and actively supports them, and is willing to work closely with China to promote implementation.

Both sides have issued a joint statement on the establishment of an all-weather strategic partnership between the People's Republic of China and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
