Xi Jinping Meeting With Angolan President Lorenzo

Xi Jinping pointed out that last year, China and Angola jointly celebrated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The China Angola relationship has undergone the test of international changes and has truly benefited the people of both countries. China ASEAN cooperation belongs to South South cooperation and cooperation among developing countries, which is mutual assistance, mutual benefit, and win-win cooperation among good friends. In the face of the current turbulent and intertwined world, both sides should continue their traditional friendship, strengthen unity and cooperation, firmly support each other, and achieve common development. China supports Angola in safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests, exploring modernization paths that are in line with its national conditions, and achieving national development and revitalization. China is willing to strengthen exchanges of governance experience with Angola, enhance the level of bilateral strategic relations, and work together to promote the modernization process of its respective countries.

Xi Jinping emphasizes that China Angola cooperation has a solid foundation, a large scale, strong complementarity, and great potential and bright prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation. The two sides should strengthen high-quality cooperation to jointly build the "the Belt and Road", promote the docking of development strategies, and promote practical cooperation to improve quality and efficiency. China is willing to work with Angola to implement key infrastructure projects, support capable Chinese enterprises to carry out various forms of cooperation in Angola, and help Angola achieve agricultural modernization, industrialization, and economic diversification. We hope that the Angolan side will take more effective measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and security of Chinese citizens and enterprises. Welcome the Angolan side to continue promoting more high-quality Angolan products to China through platforms such as the China International Import Expo and the China Africa Economic and Trade Expo. China will continue to implement projects such as the medical team to aid Angola, provide scholarships to Angolan international students, and enhance cultural exchanges and friendship with the people.

Xi Jinping pointed out that currently, the collective rise of developing countries is unstoppable, and whether it is global governance or development and prosperity, the global South should not be absent. China is a reliable friend and sincere partner of African countries in maintaining independence and promoting development and revitalization. China supports African countries and the African Union in their efforts to solve African problems through African means, maintain regional peace and stability, and is willing to strengthen multilateral coordination with African countries such as Angola, safeguard the common interests of developing countries, jointly promote an equal and orderly world multipolarity and inclusive economic globalization, and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Lorenzo said that upon visiting China, we feel at home. The relationship between Angola and China maintains a high level of development. China is the first country to provide valuable support to Angola, and Angola expresses its heartfelt thanks for this, both when Angola is ending its civil war and when it is facing difficulties in coping with the COVID-19 epidemic. China's support and cooperation have greatly promoted Angola's infrastructure construction and economic and social development, making it a model of mutually beneficial cooperation. Angola welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest in Angola and assist in the development and revitalization of the country. The Angolan side highly appreciates China's commitment to promoting world peace and progress, maintaining international fairness and justice, and is willing to strengthen multilateral cooperation with China, uphold the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, as well as important international relations norms such as safeguarding the sovereignty, independence, and non-interference in the internal affairs of all countries. We have issued a joint statement today announcing the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Angola and China, fully demonstrating the determination of both sides to deepen the relationship. The Angolan side looks forward to working with the Chinese side to continuously achieve more results in bilateral relations.

After the talks, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of a number of bilateral cooperation documents on the preparation of the "the Belt and Road" cooperation plan, economy and trade, agriculture, green development and other fields.

Both sides have issued a joint statement on the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Angola.

Before the meeting, Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony for Lorenzo in the North Hall of the Great Hall of the People.

21 salutes were fired at Tiananmen Square, and the salute soldiers lined up to pay their respects. The two heads of state stepped onto the reviewing platform, and the military band played the national anthems of China and Angola. Lorenzo, accompanied by Xi Jinping , reviewed the honor guard of the People's Liberation Army of China and watched the parade.

That evening, Xi Jinping held a welcome banquet for Lorenzo in the Golden Hall of the Great Hall of the People.
